Room 14 Term 2 Day 1

Olivia did so many creative things in the holidays. She baked bread and cookies, used images to explain her mathematical thinking, made a hut to sleep in, dress ups in her mum's wedding dress and heels, rock painting, drawing, writing, and line dancing with her mum with the help of YouTube! She also went on walks with her dog searching for teddy bears. Tino pai, Olivia!

On our first day back, Keanu has been hard at work on nature symmetry art! He started with this one.

It has heaps of detail and shows mirror symmetry. I noticed that Keanu used complementary colours to really make his art pop - the yellow and purple complement each other, and the red and green layers complement do too!

He then decided to create some nature art that had turn symmetry, too!

Keanu has been spending lots of time outside and even made a time machine with his brother out of their bicycles, inspired by Back to the Future! When we're back at school, can you take us to visit some dinosaurs??? Thanks for sharing, Keanu!

Younes had a visitor during his symmetry exploration in the garden! Read on to find out what he wondered and learned.

Happy Easter from Lucas

Abigail used her Nana's wool to lalanga (Tongan for weaving).

She also created some careful symmetry art using a leaf from Nana's lemon tree! This took some close looking and planning. I notice that you even included the mottled brown detail on the leaf. Thanks for sharing all this inspirational art, Abby!

Rory has been busy baking bread, and even found time to create his own symmetrical nature art! There is so much symmetry happening in Room 14. I notice you split one of the leaves in two equal halves to help with your symmetry. I'm sure that bread was delicious!

Happy Easter from Rafi! Check out this sweet as story he wrote about his imaginary friend, Eddy.

Leo has been busy with lots of maths, walking, and music. This symmetrical art looks like it took hard work to design and execute! He worked out the tricky task of splitting an odd number in half by using Lego pieces as manipulatives and splitting the last remaining brick in half. Thanks for explaining how you proved it, Leo. Leo also wrote me a lovely long letter about other things he's gotten up to, including lots of piano and violin and finding no less than 143 bears on his walks! WOW!

Tobin also used Lego pieces as manipulatives in his maths! The "Close to 100" grid reminded him of Minecraft, and he made his own character! Check it out. Thanks for sharing your hard work, Tobin!
