Oscar's done his 'Would you rather...?' and created wax discs from used candles. Very creative Oscar!

First you collect wax from a candle there is a photo of what type of wax then get a jar a boil water in the kettle or on a stove .After the water has boiled put the wax in the jar and pour the water in as well make sure you put the jar on a wood chopping board then pour the water when it is still on the wood then leave it .When it is cold water push one side of the wax and it should come out .If it does not work see if the jar has a tip on the inside if it does that would probably be it or it could be because it might have to much wax .

The other thing you could do is if  the candle is on a place mat and wax drips down wait till it sets then with a knife scrape some of because you could use some bits for the disc .With bits that you can't scrape off get a iron and news paper and rest the place mat on the ground outside heat the iron when it is heated put the news paper on top of the place mat and start going over the news paper with the iron .Soon there will be a black wet puddle swap the news paper pieces till the wax on the place mat is gone .It might leave a mark

Room 17 Rāpare / Thursday 30th April

Francis

Has been enjoying his simile's and metaphor's. I really like the imagery he creates with "Slippery like a slime ball". It makes me feel icky and slimy.

Kairav

Sent in this awesome Earth Day poster he did. It is important I believe to stop and reflect on the things we are grateful for in our lives, ka pai!

Teina

Sent in these two simile poems she has written. The fear poem uses personification as well as simile, very cool! Can you spot the personification?

Room 12 Friday 1 May

This is the poem Elijah wrote for his poetry schoolwork. It's about his favourite Leaderclass transformer, Jetfire.

Seb has drawn a great picture to show 1/4, 1/2 and 2/4!

Room 13 Wednesday 29th April

Isaac has written a beautiful acrostic poem about ANZAC day which paints a picture of what it must have been like during the war.

He also wrote a wonderful argument about the WWI mascots. I like how you have recognised both sides of the argument in your writing Isaac, it shows that you have considered both sides before reaching your opinion.

Room 14 Rātapu / Thursday 30th April

Keanu has done so much writing. He finished his story that we talked about as a class on Zoom.

Wow, Keanu, you really used your strong imagination here! I’m so proud of how hard you worked. It sounds really peaceful and exciting to find a sparkly magic tree on our swimming trip!

Keanu also wrote a Josephine poem inspired by our philosophy prompt. You worked hard at showing some really strong imagery to help the reader feel the emotions in your poem. Thanks for sharing!

Room 12 Thursday 30 April

Alex has written this amazing 'Emotion' poem. I love all the descriptive language you have used, I can really feel what you are writing about.

confidence IS a wheel, what would it say? What would it do? What question would you ask it, because of what it is and how it speaks and acts?

Emotion Poem
By Alex

Afraid is a shadow
Afraid whispers a low sound
Afraid would jump out of nowhere
Where are you from, Afraid?

Spooked is a weird looking monster
Spooked screeches a scary noise
Spooked is zombies attacking you
Why do you spook people?

Sad is a tear rolling down your face
Sad cries and feels down
Sad makes you feel annoyed
Where do your tears come from?

Excited is when you are about to go to a party
Excited sounds like chatter boxes
Excited would turn the world upside down

Why is your heart beating so fast?

Isla has written a beautiful poem about feelings. I love your simile...as positive as me!!!

Room 15 Rātapu / Thursday 30th April

Daniel has been doing a lot of writing today.he's also managed to beat his family when calculating the points each name has. Nice win Daniel!

Gala has been very busy as well. Paper crafts and writing a story about her teacher! Have a read of where her teacher ended up!

Story about Joanna
This is a story about my teacher Joanna usually she is teaching us lots of things but one day
on the way to school she saw a magic purple cow in the field so she went over to see what it
was and so while she was walking there it was gone she saw its tail running out of the front
gate so she ran to follow it she saw it turning so she turned and when she turned he was
gone but then she realised there was something on the path it was a portal she knew the
cow went in there so she thought she would go in and she did when she went through the
portal she landed in this place with alot of grass and animals she rubbed her eyes and
thought she was dreaming but then she looked at the animals again but the were brightly
coloured with reds oranges yellows greens and others she was surprised when she saw that
purple cow there she got up and started walking a minute later she stopped walking and she
saw a door a big brown door she didn't know if she would open it but she decided she would
so she opened it and went through she fell through this portal in the ground then she landed
in a dark place it looked the place she was just in but the colours swapped to black grey and
white and it was really dark there she started walking then she walked into the pitch black
place and then she saw this white figure she went towards it, it pushed her to the right and
she saw more of the white figures they said to her “why are you here” then the white figures
pushed her down into a portal and she ended up back in her house she forgot everything
and she went to bed THE END! :)

Wonderful Writing

Walt has written a wonderful haiku about feathers!

Room 17: Rāapa / Wednesday 29th April

Max Hawkes

And his sister Cece made the most amazing Anzac Day wreaths from things they foraged from their garden and now it is hanging proudly on their front door!

Max has also done some pretty cool drawings as well as one of last week's extra for expert activities.

Here is a picture of Max's bedroom drawn to scale. Can you see what scale he has drawn his bedroom to? How many times bigger does this mean Max's actual bedroom is?

Francis

Has been working hard on his home learning. It wasn't even lunchtime and Francis had finished all of these activities this morning! Looks like you are getting pretty good at those times tables Francis.

Eva

Has written another cool story. This one is about a group of friends glamping and some frightfully fiery fire flies. Have a read and check out another valuable morale.

Elsy

Sent in this book review. I wonder if Billie did manage to overcome her fears?

BILLIE B BROWN – THE NIGHT FRIGHT
Billie loves Rebecca's older sisters. They make her feel so grown-up!
But is Billie grown-up enough to handle scary movies they like?
I liked how she was trying to overcome her fears.
And that the story had a happily ever after.

Teina

And her sisters have been creating these pretty cool marble art pieces. Some very cool colour combinations. Teina has also shared with us her very touching and personal Anzac acrostic poem.

Louis

Wrote me a letter to introduce himself and drew an amazing picture of Mickey Mouse. He also sent a picture of his super cool looking dog Asta, a Swedish Vallhund.

Maisie

Has been working hard on today's home learning. She sent in a story about this new teacher guy Andrew. He sounds pretty cool! Maisie also shared with us her inquiry into water. I wonder if clouds and steam are the same thing or are they different? What about them is the same and what about them is different?

Gunreet

Sent in this picture she has been working on, it reminds me of a tropical rain forest. She has also been working hard on her word problems.
